Very few ebook readers read .LIT files, but at least .LIT is easy to convert to other formats. Calibre, free at http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net, will convert non-DRM’d lit files to ePub.

The Astak reader (http://www.astak.com/product.asp?serial=05EZBLK ) reads probably the most filetypes of any of the e-ink readers on the market right now, including both PDF and LIT. The iTouch is a good overall device, but not great as an ebook reader–if you want all the other features, it can work out, but if you’re mostly looking for an ebook reader and won’t miss the other apps, a dedicated reader is the way to go.

It’s great that your doing research but be careful! Although many ebook readers are now able to read PDF files, they distort them somethin fierce! I learned that the hard way when i bought the Kindle 2.
That’s just a little warning to you. I myself gave up, and just bought a monitor built for reading text.

Hmm. What about Barnes and Nobles new Nook? You could Google "Nook reviews" to see how good it is.

Thank God for competition. Competition has forced Kindle to include pdf files but there are many choices out there– most of them are much less expensive and more of them are still on the horizon. One place to go to get ebooks is http://www.kobobooks.com/. It’s only about a couple of weeks old but it has a deal with Barnes and Noble and lots of big money behind it. They have democratized ebook apps by making most books downloadable in any format. Finally, do a Google search on Kindle and competition to find something appropriate for you.

For reading use, I think you should definitely go for the Kindle instead of iTouch. There has been many users complaining that if you look into the screen of iPod for reading over an hour, your eyes will get very tired because of the backlight. See an article about this here:

iTouch is actually not designed for reading purpose. I’ve given my opinion about reading on the iPod and real ebook / pdf reader in a previous answer here, guess it’ll help you decide which to choose:

The Kindle does not use folder but use similar thing. In the latest update of the Kindle, you can organize the books in collections, as you can see here:
