Amazon Kindle
Here is the review for the Amazon Kindle. The Amazon Kindle is available on Amazon.com for $399.99 It uses the Sprint EVDO network to access data much like a cell phone without a wireless hotspot and most of all, it is free. It has 256 MB of internal storage and provides an SD memory card slot along with a USB mini slot, along with a headphone jack.

Before you declare …
Before you declare the Kindle to be a “green” invention, ou should know that it works by using oil & titanium dioxide. And that’s just the screen. Never mind the plastic housing, or the toxic batteries which eventually have to be disposed of.
Books are still a timeless invention that will be with us forever. They can be passed on to people & don’t require electricity, batteries, or internet. People who manufacture paper products traditionally ensure that trees are replenished to make more.

Kindle is the …
Kindle is the future of books. However, I have no interest in being an early adopter. You wait and see. In a few years the price is going to drop substantially and the device will be capable of so much more. That’s when I’ll consider getting one.
As for textbooks, it’ll be great when students carry these things around instead of backpacks crammed with 40lbs. of textbooks. However, don’t kid yourself into thinking you’ll be saving money.
You won’t be able to buy used text books or sell.

You seem to have a …
You seem to have a commidity fetish for books rather than a love of reading (just kidding)lol but seriously, imagine if every student was given one instead having to lug 5 or 6 books around, think of how cheap college books will be. You say you can’t justify spending $260 on one but have you ever purchased clothes or jewelry that you didn’t need? I think the “kindle debate” is forcing us think about our habits as consumers, maybe this will re’kindle’ the renaissance.

I like books. I …
I like books. I like how they look. I like how they smell. I like how the feel. I want shelves and shelves crammed with the works of great minds. I think there are far worse ways to waste trees than by manufacturing books.
That said, the Kindle does interest me. When the cost hits the $100 I may pick one up. I can’t justify spending $260 on this when I could buy a netbook for less than $100 more.

I sort of agree. I …
I sort of agree. I think reading is not something the average person does for pleasure anymore.
I remember someone posting a medium-length rant on a forum I frequent, about how people have such short attention spans these days and want “info nao!” instead of spending time reading.
Comments to the post included “tl;dr”.

It’s funny how …
It’s funny how people think the kindle is a waste of money yet will easily spend $500 on a ps3 or an iphone. Imagine how many trees we could save if more people used this instead of paper back.we buy things like clolthes, make up,shoes, cars etc things we don’t need but the kindle is useless to most people simply cuz most people don’t read unless it’s a 20 word text message, most people won’t read this comment cuz it’s to long.LOL the masses are content with mindless consumerism.

most of my books …
most of my books are textbooks. i have access to electronic compies of some of my textbooks, but find it less convenient to flip and scan through pages, and i would imagine that i would have the same problem with this.

I don’t need 80 …
I don’t need 80 gigs of music in my car, or a thousand CDs, just one at a time, because I tend to listen to entire albums, and don’t drive that much. Since you brought it up though, I enjoy cassettes as well.
November 25th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
lmao, you’d rather …
lmao, you’d rather use CD’s than an ipod? See if im in my car I have 80 gigs of music to listen to at the touch of a button mounted on my dash. You couldn’t fit that many CD’s in your car. CD’s are old news, so are DVD’s and blu-rays IMO. Were entering an age where EVERYTHING is digital and can be stored on small hard-drives or more likely memory chips.

I embraced MP3’s, I embraced digital photography, but there is no way I’m getting this thing. All the so called conveniences of it are a moot point the first time you drop it and it shatters all over the place.

I really want to buy that! I’m really a reading-nerd, and it would be soo much better for me to bring that little thing, rather that 1000-pages books to school (ok, I don’t normally do that xD) Does anybody else recommend it, and how many books can it store?
