How do I replace a Kindle with a broken screen?

June 6th, 2010

My Kindle’s screen recently broke, and from a little googling there are some articles that say that Amazon offers replacements for such occurrences. However after checking on their website and around the net I haven’t found out precisely how to do so. Any help?

I suggest you to contact Amazon, they may be able to offer you a replacement:

Hope it helps :)

When you buy a kindle do you have to pay extra for a book?

May 31st, 2010

Okay, I wanna surprise my Mom for her Birthday. If I buy a kindle, do i have to pay money for every book i read?

Yes, you have to pay extra for books, but books on the Kindle are cheaper than actual books. All books for the Kindle can be found here:

http://www.amazon.com/b?node=1286228011&tag=elec-m-20

I own the Kindle 2, so let me give you some of my opinions. It is a great device, and I’ve to say I love it! I think I’ve read over 30 books with my Kindle, no glitches so far! And since Kindle books are cheaper than actual books, I think I’ve saved around $120 on buying books already.

One of the reasons I love my Kindle is that it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I have the Kindle, waiting time like when I’m waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me, and all my favorite books are inside it. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I’ve myself busy on some boring things, say when I’m on the step machine or doing some housework…

I like reading and at the beginning I did miss a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books… Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired… And I now prefer to manage all books inside the Kindle rather than my never big enough bookshelf… And like to do bookmarking, annotation, dictionary lookup without any additional thing but a Kindle.

There are quite a lot of free books (tips: if you’re outside the U.S. all the books will have US$2 added, but when you choose to download to computer when you check out, the $2 will be waived, and you can copy the books to your Kindle through USB cable), and many Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper version. I remember I read these reviews about the benefits of the Kindle when I decided to buy it:

The Kindle can read PDF files without any problem. See the section "Files Kindle Recognizes" on the official page here:

also ima resident of chennai , would love it ..if its available here
i have a lot of ebooks in my pc , an i want read them …dad hates me sitting in pc allday and also he doesnt like mobiles…..can anyone suggest me any of ebook readers which is nota pc and a mobile

The best two cool portable ebook readers are the Kindle and the Sony Reader. The Kindle aren’t available outside the United States, however, as you can see in the question "Is Kindle available to customers outside the United States?" here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200316870%26ref%255F%3Dhp%255Fnavbox%255Fhh%255Fk2faq&tag=querystr-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

So I’ll suggest you to go for the Sony Reader instead, which is the best alternative of the Kindle. There is a good review here:

You may get the device from Amazon too. They provide international shipping at a reasonable price:

Hope it helps.

What happens when you change your country registration on Kindle?

May 22nd, 2010

I have a Kindle reader and I found a book on Amazon I wanted to read… However this book is unavailable in the US due to copyright issues. I wanted to try changing my country so that I could buy this book in a place where it wasn’t unavailable. Will changing my country affect my purchased books, and will it result in any negative consequences? And can it be reversed?

You need to have a credit card and an address registered to that country as well or I believe it won’t let you purchase anything.

How does one use the kindle in India? Does the bundled free wireless service work in India?

May 19th, 2010

I want to also know specific feedback on other e-book readers, including the one launced in India- how do they compare to the kindle?

Yes, the free wireless service of the Kindle works in India as well. You can go to the Kindle homepage, click the link inside the box " Live Outside the U.S.?", then choose India to see how it is supported in your country:

I’ve also compared the Amazon Kindle and other ebook readers, in another answer here. Guess you’ll find interested:

how do i change the font size in a pdf ebook?

May 16th, 2010

i have a 700 page pdf ebook and i want to use it on a ebook reader, but the font size is too small and almost can read anything. i want to change the font size for the whole pdf not a page or paragraph and i need the pictures in the ebook. so plz dont suggest converting the file to .txt or .doc. and i have adobe acrobat professional 9.0. thx
as i said earlier im using pdf on a ebook reader and even when i zoom in ebook reader its too small, so plz do not suggest zooming in acrobat reader or any program like that. i want to edit the font size permanently.

At the bottom right of your screen ia a small icon with a + sign on it next to which it says 100%. Click on the small arrowhead to the left and you can zoom the whole page to whatever you like.
Also in the Adobe reader thre is a zoom that goes up to 400% in some documents.

What is the best ebook reader for PDF documents?

May 13th, 2010

I want to buy an ebook reader. Most of the books that I have are in PDF.

Thanks for your answers.

It is definitely the Amazon Kindle, especially with its coming release of update on PDF handling feature. It adds in zoom and pan for PDF documents:
