Rocky (for Sega Master System) – Ivan Drago goes down for the 10 count (very rare occurrence) – Part 2. Performed by Daniel T (aka DTysonator) on a real Master System, recorded on VHS, and digitally produced by “cyriades”. While Ivan Drago is normally a very challenging opponent, Daniel T has created a great strategy against him. Thanks to A&C Games for renting classic games and system to Daniel T!

The Rocky series of movies tells the story of Rocky Balboa, who – in the first movie – was a struggling Philadelphia boxer who got a one-in-a-million shot at the heavyweight title. Rocky was played with heart and guts by Sylvester Stallone. He also created the character and story, which were both based on the struggles he was going through as an actor and writer, as well as Chuck Wepner, who went the distance against Muhammed Ali. Yes he is, and this is they key for beating Drago, more specifically because it is the only way of over qualifying (7punches/sec) on the 2nd training, before Clubber Lang.
This training allows Rocky to punch faster, landing the strong blow after the jabs. Without this training, it simply impossible to trade punches with Drago, he hits you just before you try to use a strong blow.

I would like the …
I would like the bottoms of my palms (just the first 2 knuckles) and slide them back and forth really fast to get Doc so excited about getting rocky up. I got callouses from doing this, and still never beat Drago. Also, acing all the training helps.

Is Daniel T using some sort of rapid-fire controller? It seems like Mickey’s hands are moving extremely fast when Rocky is knocked down.

what a rare sight …
what a rare sight Drago crying after a fight! nice job though, this was a pretty tough game to play when you think about the limitations of movement in the ring.

Cool. Yeah, the jab …
Cool. Yeah, the jab is a great punch to keep Drago at bay and also helps to set him up along the ropes. The fact the you scored a couple of knockdowns is a sign that you were on the right track.
The first time that I ever beat Drago was by decision and only one knockdown was scored in the 7th. Without maximum training, he is obviously trickier, but the jab really does work wonders if used properly.

I never really …
I never really could figure out Drago though. I remember knocking him down once or twice the most in any time I have played the game period. I also remember one time I just ran from him and kept up my jab to keep him away but that didn’t help. We actually went about 9 rounds and did no damage to each other.

. You’re right, no turbo controller was used. I play for real, because that is the best way to obtain a “real challenge” and to prove that any game is actually beatable.

I agree, the graphics in this game are by far the best that the system has to offer. The music could have been better though, it lacks the Rocky theme for the added inspiration and the “eye of the tiger”.
As for Mr. Drago, I am hoping that future videos will tarnish whatever legacy he had as a formidable final opponent. In my opinion he is as dead in the game as Apollo was in Rocky IV.

To any one waching …
To any one waching it it looks like no big deal and just another 8 bit era boxing game. But take away this (although much appeciated) grainy video and play it on a CCT tv and you appreciate what eye candy this game was. Also all 3 boxers required a progressively higher level of skill to beat. Beating Drago was very hard to do. Respect to this mans skill.

Thanks, kiertheproducer! Drago didn’t get lucky in Round 6 though, I got Rocky off to a bad start and it eventually caught up with him.
A much more convincing KO of Drago will be uploaded in the future, similar to how he was knocked out in the movie, except in much less time.

drago got lucky on the end of round 6, i only seemed to magae only to get past clubber lang once or twice!! drago used to kick my arse well easy on this when i was a kid. this is the first time ive seen drago defeated on here nice one!!
